A failed ambush recorded last night in Nueva Imperial (La Araucanía) against a truck traveling along route S-488 ended with a person run over and dead after the driver fled to avoid the assault. The body was identified as an active member of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM).
At 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a 33-year-old man arrived at the Fourth Police Station of Nueva Imperial, identifying himself as the driver of a truck that provides services to Forestal Mininco. He did so to report that moments earlier, while traveling through the Pichi Boroa sector towards the San Ricardo estate and under heavy fog, he was attacked by at least two armed strangers who pretended their vehicle had broken down to force him to stop.
"They started shouting at him to get out of the vehicle while pointing their weapons at him, so in the face of danger, he decided to continue driving the truck and flee towards Nueva Imperial," said prosecutor Nelly Marabolí.
As a result of this escape, one of the hooded individuals was run over by the truck. It was later confirmed that this was Álvaro Quinchinao Hueche, a resident of Freire and an active militant of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM).
At 9:40 p.m., a call to level 133 alerted Carabineros that on the aforementioned route, the body of a person with signs of being run over was lying. Police personnel went to the scene and confirmed his death.
The vehicle was abandoned outside the gate of a woman, who was the one reporting it. The individuals also asked her to call an ambulance.
"Based on this information, the prosecutor's office initiated various investigative steps that were directed on the ground by a prosecutor. In these early hours, evidence and information have been collected that are consistent with the dynamics reported precisely by the truck driver, who currently maintains the status of victim in this investigation," concluded the prosecutor.
