The National Forestry Corporation Conaf, in the Ñuble region, held the commemoration of Forest Engineer Day 2026, under the motto “Roots that project the future: recognition of the role of the Forest Engineer in Ñuble,” an event that brought together authorities from the Corporation and the guild.
The day focused on two activities that highlighted the contribution of forest engineers in areas such as ecosystem conservation, land management, and sustainable forest development, emphasizing the scientific and technical work promoted from the region.
The main activity took place through a guided tour of the Conaf Ñuble Seed, Genetics, and Entomology Center, where representatives of the forestry guild were able to learn about the lines of this strategic space for research and projection of forest ecosystems, also recognizing the contribution they make from their profession in topics such as innovation, regional impact, and the connection between seed and forest.
The director of Conaf Ñuble, Domingo González Zúñiga, highlighted the importance of forestry work in the current context, stating that “the role of the forest engineer is key to facing challenges such as climate change, ecosystem restoration, and the protection of our forests. At Conaf Ñuble, we are committed to strengthening that work, linking science, territory, and public management.”
Likewise, he added that “forest engineers begin our work from actions that promote the germination of a seed that is life and end with the development of a tree and forest systems that represent economic, environmental, and social development for the region.”
For his part, the president of the College of Forest Engineers of Ñuble, Eduardo Mera Igor, valued this recognition of professional practice, indicating that “it highlights the silent but fundamental contribution that forest engineers make in the region, both in the public and private sectors, contributing to sustainable development and the well-being of communities. This is very relevant today, where we also have an important role in the search for actions to mitigate the problem of climate change.”
The private sector was represented by the manager of CORMA Biobío-Ñuble, Margarita Celis Plá, who valued “the meaning of this commemorative activity, as it makes visible the role of forest engineers in matters such as nature conservation and the forestry and timber production of our country.”
One of the central milestones of the activity was the delivery of a symbolic recognition to the representatives of the College of Forest Engineers of Ñuble and special guests, consisting of trees cultivated at the Center itself, as a sign of the link between knowledge, nature, and the future.
Finally, within the framework of the commemorative agenda for the guild of forest engineers, early this Monday, Conaf Ñuble held an internal celebration aimed at officials who embrace this profession within the Corporation, with the aim of recognizing their commitment to the management and protection of the region's forest heritage, in the areas of forests and climate change, oversight, and protection against forest fires.
