With the aim of preventing wood theft and strengthening inspection in the province of Itata, the Carabineros Forest Patrol carried out a joint operation at sawmills in the commune of Quirihue.

The intervention was carried out in coordination with CONAF Ñuble, the Itata Presidential Delegation, and the Seremía of Public Security, within the framework of Law No. 21,488, which toughens sanctions and control mechanisms over the commercialization of forest products.

During the procedure, teams reviewed documentation on the origin and traceability of the wood, in addition to preventive inspections to detect possible irregularities in storage and commercialization.

Lieutenant Víctor Cordovez, head of the Quirihue Forest Patrol, emphasized the importance of these actions: “Our goal is to verify that the wood in the process of storage or sale has legal backing. Joint work allows us to prevent crimes and provide greater security to forest communities.”

The inspection reinforces inter-institutional work to protect legal forest activity, promote regulatory compliance, and prevent wood theft, a crime that generates serious economic and social impacts in rural areas.

Carabineros confirmed that it will continue deploying specialized operations in different points of Ñuble, in order to safeguard forest heritage and strengthen territorial security.
