With the aim of strengthening the sustainable management of native forests and promoting the link between producers and potential buyers of forest products, the National Forest Corporation (Conaf) promoted a day of meeting and dialogue that brought together medium-sized landowners, representatives of forest companies, guilds, and sector professionals.

The activity allowed for the creation of a space for exchanging experiences and knowledge regarding sustainable forest management, silvicultural treatments applied to native forests, and the productive opportunities that arise from responsible management of this important natural heritage.

During the day, representatives from Aprobosque, an organization that brings together medium-sized forest landowners linked to native forests; the Chilean Wood Corporation (Corma), through its native forest unit; producers and buyers of native timber; as well as professionals from Conaf La Araucanía and Los Ríos participated.

The regional director of Conaf Araucanía, Héctor Tillería Flores, highlighted the relevance of creating these instances of articulation between the different actors in the sector:

“We met with medium-sized landowners and forest companies linked to native forest management to promote productive chain linkages between those who produce and manage their forests sustainably and the potential buyers of forest products from these sustainable harvests. It was a very interesting initiative, where we discussed silviculture, silvicultural treatments, forest management in native forests, and obtaining products derived from sustainable management of these ecosystems,” he stated.

The authority added that this type of meeting contributes to generating new opportunities for forest landowners, promoting management practices that reconcile ecosystem conservation with local economic development.

“We are very pleased to have fostered this instance and we especially thank Fundo Don Cristóbal, its representative, and its technical advisor for the shared experience and the turnout achieved during this activity,” added Tillería.

From Conaf, they highlighted that sustainable management of native forests constitutes a fundamental tool for biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, and the development of productive activities compatible with the protection of natural resources.

The activity is part of the actions that the Corporation carries out to strengthen sustainable forest management in the region, promoting collaboration among landowners, guild organizations, companies, and public entities linked to the forest sector.
