With a historic investment of $9.8 billion, the Regional Government of Biobío and the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) officially launched the program "Productive Recovery of Forests Affected by Fires," an initiative aimed at reactivating forestry activity on properties damaged by fires and supporting small and medium-sized landowners in the region.

The agreement, signed in the Gregorio de la Fuente Mural Hall of the Regional Government, will allow the recovery of 4,000 hectares of native forests and productive plantations, benefiting 450 families over a 36-month execution period.

The regional governor, Sergio Giacaman, highlighted that the program seeks to address a need that for years affected hundreds of landowners who lacked the resources to reforest their lands. He also underscored the strategic importance of the forestry sector for the regional economy, due to its contribution to employment and various production chains.

Implementation will be led by Conaf. Its executive director, Aída Baldini, stated that the agency has already begun preparatory actions to ensure timely execution of the program, including the availability of the necessary plant material to begin planting.

The initiative, approved by the Regional Council in November 2025, was also praised by regional councilor Juan Carlos Medina, who highlighted the economic impact it will have for Biobío by strengthening one of its main productive activities.

From the private sector, the president of Corma Biobío and Ñuble, Alejandro Casagrande, stated that the program represents a significant step forward in supporting small and medium-sized forest landowners and could become a benchmark for future public policies at the national level.

In addition to promoting the recovery of forests affected by fires, the program projects the generation of at least 5,000 jobs during its execution, contributing to economic reactivation and the strengthening of forestry development in the Biobío Region.
