The family of the murdered forest ranger in Carahue filed a lawsuit for aggravated homicide more than four years after the crime perpetrated by an armed group on a forest property.

The lawsuit was filed before the Guarantee Court of Carahue, with the aim of pursuing criminal liability against those responsible for the murder of the young forest brigade member, Benjamín Bustos Manrique, which occurred on February 20, 2022, in the commune of Carahue.

Benjamín Bustos was working as a guard inside the El Encanto property, located in the Llanquín sector and owned by Forestal Mininco, providing services for the company First Security when he was attacked and murdered alongside his coworker, Alejandro Carrasco Millafe.

Four years have passed since the crime, and for Ingrid Manrique, mother of the murdered young man, it has been an eternity waiting for justice, waiting for the police to identify and arrest those responsible.

"We have been waiting for justice for more than 4 years for the murder of our son Benjamín, but no one does anything in this country. You can just kill and nothing happens to them. It cannot be. My son was just working; he did not deserve to die like that, in that way, so cruelly. We are devastated. I have a tear in my soul that will never heal," the woman lamented.

The legal action was filed by lawyer Luis Candia, who represents the parents of Benjamín Bustos Manrique.

The plaintiff in this case stated that, according to the evidence gathered during the investigation, both victims were approached by an indeterminate group of individuals who acted in a premeditated manner and with evident treachery.

The attackers allegedly subdued the workers, who were unarmed, and subsequently shot them multiple times, without them having any possibility of defending themselves because they did not carry firearms.
