A meeting aimed at allowing victims of violence in the southern macrozone to directly express their main urgent needs and demands to President José Antonio Kast was held yesterday in the commune of Collipulli, located 112 kilometers north of Temuco, in La Araucanía.
Asked by "El Mercurio" about the scope of the meeting, Yana Navarrete, whose family has suffered recurrent arson attacks on their properties and machinery, stated that "more than providing answers, the president came to listen to the victims."
In this regard, the forestry contractor expressed that "in general, there was agreement in requesting reparation measures for victims from all sectors. Although the President did not want to commit prematurely, he agreed to analyze the issue."
She added that, "personally, I asked him to focus his attention on victims who cannot survive on their own; for example, the elderly, who lost everything and were displaced from where they lived and worked. For these people, productive support programs are not useful, because at 80 years or older they no longer have the same energy and willingness to invest."
The presidential delegate of La Araucanía, former regional prosecutor Francisco Ljubetic, highlighted that in Collipulli, President Kast held meetings with both the victims and the region's trade unions. "The meetings with the victims and the unions were very productive. Everyone has made their proposals, some of which are currently being developed, as part of the priorities the President has for the area," he emphasized.
