With the aim of strengthening forest inspection and verifying compliance with current regulations, the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) and Carabineros de Chile carried out a large-scale highway operation on Route 5 South, near the commune of Victoria.
The activity was carried out within the framework of the application of Law No. 21,488, which strengthens control and traceability mechanisms associated with the transport of forest products, promoting greater protection of forest heritage and compliance with current legislation.
The operation involved the participation of officers from the Carabineros Forest Patrol and personnel from the Victoria Highway Police Station, who set up three checkpoints to inspect the documentation associated with the transport of forest products.
During the day, a total of 30 trucks traveling on the country's main highway were inspected, verifying information related to the origin, transport, and traceability of the forest products being moved.
As a result of the inspection, no infractions were recorded nor were any persons detained, reflecting adequate compliance with regulations by the inspected transporters.
The regional presidential delegate of La Araucanía, Francisco Ljubetic, highlighted the coordination between state agencies to strengthen security and compliance with the law. "There is coordinated work that we are developing with different services, through highway operations, in order to inspect forest transport and ensure it complies with regulations. As a Government, we have reiterated that there will be no impunity and we are working to combat organized crime," he stated.
Sub-Officer Major González, head of the Carabineros Forest Patrol, highlighted the importance of these joint procedures. "These actions seek to strengthen wood traceability, promote compliance with current regulations, and safeguard forest heritage and private properties, working collaboratively with the competent authorities," he noted.
For his part, the regional director of Conaf Araucanía, Héctor Tillería Flores, valued the inter-institutional work developed in the region. "We deeply value the coordinated work we are developing together with Carabineros within the framework of the Law. This operation adds to six other joint procedures carried out during this year in the region, strengthening inspection and control of forest product transport. These actions complement the permanent work our Corporation carries out in forest inspection. The joint effort between institutions allows us to increase our presence in the field, protect forest heritage, and contribute to more efficient management of La Araucanía's forest resources," he indicated.
Officials from the participating institutions stated that this type of controls will continue to be carried out at different points in the region, as part of a permanent inspection strategy aimed at strengthening the traceability of forest products, preventing crimes, and safeguarding the natural heritage of La Araucanía.
