It was during the second edition of the Summit Chile Impacta where the regional president of Corma, Alejandro Casagrande, addressed the crisis that the forestry sector has faced in recent months. The diagnosis, he assured, is clear, and now the challenge is to focus on solutions.

"The region must solve the security problem so that investment returns. We have placed our focus there. If we are able to resolve security issues, the forestry sector is 100% willing to reinvest in those territories where these problems currently exist and, with that, resume the growth that the sector so badly needs," he stated.

Casagrande added that, as a guild, the focus is on moving toward concrete measures. "We all have a clear direction, and today we are focused on what the solutions are," he asserted.

From Arauco, they also commented on the scenario facing the industry. The Manager of Heritage and Sustainability, Juan Anzieta, acknowledged that the company is going through a complex period, although he highlighted the importance of maintaining a long-term vision.

"Today we are going through a rather low period in terms of international prices and the global scenario. However, our company works with a long-term perspective. Biological assets require decades to develop: a eucalyptus takes about 12 years to grow and a pine about 20 years. Therefore, our outlook is always focused on the future, and we look with optimism at what is coming," he explained.

Anzieta acknowledged that the sector is facing a time of tightness but expressed confidence in its recovery. "It is true that we are going through a difficult period; however, we are very confident that this will move forward and that both the company and the Chilean forestry sector have the capacity to project themselves into the future," he noted.

Among the measures promoted by Corma to face the crisis is the increase of forest mass through the planting of new forests. Added to this is the need to strengthen the prevention and combat of forest fires, one of the factors that most affects the development of the activity and which the guild considers a priority to eradicate.
