Violent arson attack affects forestry operations on the border of Lautaro and Vilcún

A new arson attack affected a forestry operation in the La Araucanía Region on Friday afternoon, after a group of armed individuals set fire to machinery and work vehicles in the Dollinco sector, Lautaro commune, on the border with Vilcún.

According to preliminary information, the attackers arrived at the property where forestry work was being carried out and set fire to an excavator used in the operations and two pickup trucks, which were completely destroyed. After committing the attack, the individuals fled the scene.

Following the report, Carabineros personnel went to the site of the incident to carry out initial investigative procedures and secure the area, while efforts are underway to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.

The regional presidential delegate of La Araucanía, Francisco Ljubetic, confirmed the attack and indicated that, according to testimonies gathered at the scene, at least two hooded individuals would have participated in the arson action.

"For now, I have no further information about any banners or signs left at the scene, but it is an area that has indeed been the target of other incidents previously," the authority stated.

So far, no injuries or arrests have been reported, and no information has been provided about the presence of reivindicatory messages at the attack site.

The investigation has been placed under the direction of the police, led by the Public Prosecutor's Office, while authorities continue gathering information to determine the circumstances of the attack.

This new act of rural violence adds to other incidents recorded in the southern macrozone, where forestry and silvoagricultural operations have been targeted in recent years, maintaining the concern of workers and companies in the sector regarding security conditions for the development of their activities.
