Rosamel Fierro Huenuman, accused of participating in an armed robbery against forestry workers in Carahue, in the La Araucanía region, was placed under pretrial detention as a precautionary measure.
This Tuesday, the hearing for detention control and formalization of charges against the defendant for the crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation, simple damages, and drug cultivation took place at the Carahue Guarantee Court.
The community member was arrested on Monday by PDI personnel after having been a fugitive from justice since December 2021. The defendant was with his partner in downtown Carahue when he was captured.
Fierro is accused of participating in a violent robbery that affected forestry workers in March 2021 at the Aguas Blancas estate. At that location, a truck was intercepted, and the perpetrators, carrying firearms, stole all of the workers' belongings, forcing them to kneel and then firing shots beside their heads to intimidate them.
For this incident, two people have already been convicted, and now a third involved party has been formally charged.
The hearing lasted several hours, during which the Public Prosecutor's Office provided the details of the investigation. Then, after hearing from the parties, the Guarantee judge decided to impose pretrial detention on Rosamel Fierro Huenuman, considering the risk of flight.
The defendant was transferred in an armored vehicle to the Temuco Pretrial Detention Center, but he will later be moved to the Mapuche community members' module at the Angol prison.
