The Chilean Biomass Association A.G (AChBIOM) confirmed that the pellet market is going through a period of "tightness" in its availability due to demand that exceeded seasonal projections.
Daniela Espinoza, manager of the guild, detailed that this situation is not due to a total shortage, but rather a critical increase in consumption due to low temperatures. "The point is that there has been a significant increase in demand. Therefore, both distribution and production companies—who ultimately manage the entire logistics chain—have to make a greater effort to reach every point of sale. In order to distribute stock to more families, many companies have limited the number of bags per person.
And most importantly: I want to reassure people. Today there is no company stopped due to a lack of raw material," she explained.
This scenario has generated long lines of users in cities such as Osorno, Puerto Montt, and Castro.
The industry representative stated that the Los Lagos Region remains the main consumer of pellets nationwide, which requires a greater logistical effort, given that it is far from production centers.
In light of images of people buying large quantities of bags, the manager of the Chilean Biomass Association A.G AChBIOM made a strong call for responsible purchasing and avoiding "hoarding." "Now there is explosive demand at points of sale. Furthermore, amid rumors of scarcity, some people tend to hoard products and buy much more than they actually need," she indicated.
Despite the tightness, those in the industry assured that there are currently no companies halted due to a lack of raw material and that the guild maintains a constant working group with the Ministry of Energy to monitor supply and demand levels in each region.
