The National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) has opened the application process for those interested in joining the teams that will carry out forest firefighting and control work during the 2026-2027 season.
The call is part of the national process for hiring forest firefighters, which includes more than 3,000 positions distributed across 13 regions of the country, including the Biobío Region.
In the Biobío Region, for the upcoming season, the incorporation of 536 people is planned to perform firefighting and operational support duties. Of this total, 65 brigade chiefs, 72 crew leaders, 85 chainsaw operators, and 314 firefighters are required.
Among the general requirements, applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have completed basic education, hold a valid ID card, have health compatible with the duties of the position, and have no criminal record. For certain specialized positions, additional requirements of experience, technical knowledge, or certifications may apply.
Interested individuals must visit CONAF's official website, www.conaf.cl, select the corresponding call for the Biobío Region, review the available profiles, and complete the application form.
The regional presidential delegate, Julio Anativia, called on people to participate in the process. "We are at this launch alongside the regional ministers of Agriculture and Labor, with the regional director of CONAF, calling on young people to apply for the role of forest firefighter in the 536 positions available for the Biobío Region, due to the importance of this matter. There are requirements being established, applications can be submitted online, and we hope to have all these firefighters who, in addition to the firefighters also employed by companies, will combat the forest fires that may occur during the season," he stated.
Likewise, the regional director of CONAF, Álvaro González, emphasized the service-oriented nature of working as a forest firefighter. "We call on all people who meet these requirements compatible with the role to come forward and support us. This is another way to serve the country, defend biodiversity, defend forests, defend protected wilderness areas, etc. There are different ways to serve, and this is a very noble way to do it through our institution," he indicated.
Applications will remain open until available positions are filled. Additionally, those who have difficulty completing the process online may access assisted applications at the Municipal Labor Information Offices (OMIL) in the various communes of the region.
The process includes several stages, including the receipt of background information, verification of requirements, physical, technical, and psycho-occupational evaluations, selection, and hiring.
The incorporation of selected individuals will be carried out in a staggered manner, according to CONAF's planning and operational needs for the season of highest forest fire occurrence.
Finally, it should be noted that selected individuals will receive specialized training to perform their duties safely and efficiently. The preparation considers content related to fire behavior, use of tools and equipment, safety, operational protocols, and practical field training.
