The Biobío Region recorded a rebound in forest export activity during June 2026. According to the latest report from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the sector reached shipments totaling US$ 213.0 million, representing a year-on-year growth of 3.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.

This result is particularly relevant given that forest exports concentrated 47.1% of the region's total export basket for the period, which amounted to US$ 451.8 million.

Pulp leads shipments

"Manufacture of pulp, paper, and cardboard" consolidated as the sector's driving economic activity, with a 65.0% share of the total forest exports. This sector alone moved US$ 138.5 million, experiencing a growth of 6.1% compared to June 2025.

Regarding specific goods, the breakdown is as follows:

  1. Pulp: US$ 137.8 million (64.7% share), with an increase of 11.2%.
  2. Sawn wood: US$ 21.9 million (10.3%), recording a decrease of 39.7%.
  3. Wood fiberboard: US$ 15.2 million (7.1%), with an increase of 17.7%.

China leads destinations

International markets remain key to the regional economy. During June, 73.0% of forest exports were destined for just five territories: China, the United States, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Italy, accumulating a total of US$ 155.4 million.

China remains the main trading partner, capturing 32.6% of shipments (US$ 69.4 million), followed by the United States with 18.8% (US$ 40.1 million) and the Netherlands with 10.3% (US$ 22.0 million).
