Multigremial Araucanía assures that attacks and violence in the Southern Macrozona decreased by 58%

Violence and attacks in the Southern Macrozona decreased by 58%. From January to July, the police and the Armed Forces carried out 7 massive operations where they detained 16 defendants linked to armed groups that claim the Mapuche cause.

The conflict barometer prepared by the Multigremial of La Araucanía indicates that, with more than 1,500 days under a state of emergency in 4 provinces of the southern macrozona, violence has drastically decreased.

The latest figure in this regard is equivalent to a 58% reduction.

In July of this year, 2 violent actions were recorded, the murder of Carabineros non-commissioned officer Marco Cosme; a crime that occurred on July 15 in the coastal area of Valdivia, Los Ríos region.

Meanwhile, on July 17, an armed group burned vehicles at a forestry operation in Lautaro, in the La Araucanía region.

The president of the Multigremial, Patricio Santibáñez, stated that the decrease in violence is evident, but insisted on the need to adopt other measures to completely dismantle the armed groups.

From January 30 to July of this year, the police along with military personnel from the Marine Infantry in the Bío Bío region and the Army in La Araucanía have carried out 7 operations where 16 people have been detained, including 6 members of the armed organization Resistencia Mapuche Lafquenche and 2 defendants linked to the Weichan Auka Mapu group.

During the first 7 months of this year, 15 attacks have been perpetrated in the Southern Macrozona, of which 73% of the violent incidents are concentrated in the provinces of Malleco and Cautín, both under a state of emergency.
