Interagency operation deployed against forestry crimes in Malleco

A broad interagency deployment was carried out in the Province of Malleco to strengthen control over timber transport and prevent potential crimes and irregularities linked to forestry activity, one of the areas considered within the actions of the Plan against Organized Crime.

The operation was led on the ground by the Regional Minister of Public Security of La Araucanía, Luis Calderón Ramírez, and focused on Route R-49, on the road to Curaco, where trucks transporting forestry products were stopped and subjected to inspections aimed at establishing the origin of their loads and verifying compliance with legal requirements.

The procedure simultaneously mobilized Carabineros, Army personnel, the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF), and the Internal Revenue Service (SII), articulating police, military, forestry, and tax capacities to carry out controls on different aspects related to timber transport.

Traceability under the microscope

One of the main objectives was to verify that the transported timber had records allowing its origin to be properly established. CONAF verified the traceability and origin of the loads, while SII officials reviewed dispatch guides and tax documentation linked to forestry activity.

Carabineros, meanwhile, was in charge of traffic regulation and stopping vehicles to allow inspections. Personnel from the Public Order Control and the Forestry Patrol of the Malleco Prefecture participated in the deployment, along with Army personnel who supported security tasks at different points in the sector.

Calderón highlighted that this type of procedure seeks to maintain an active State presence on routes considered strategic and to comprehensively control the conditions under which forestry transport takes place.

"The importance of this type of inspection is to maintain territorial control and carry them out so that timber traceability is properly accredited. At the same time, an exhaustive check is made of vehicle documentation and tax documentation associated with forestry exploitation," said the regional minister.

Territorial control on strategic routes

The deployment is part of a strategy aimed not only at inspecting vehicles, but also at strengthening territorial control and preventing potential irregularities related to the transport and commercialization of forestry products.

Despite the scale of the procedure, no irregularities were detected during this inspection. The trucks checked accredited the required documentation and complied with the requirements established by current regulations.

The Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Public Security announced that operations will continue to be carried out at different points in La Araucanía. The strategy includes maintaining coordinated and targeted inspections based on security analyses, reinforcing institutional presence in sectors and routes considered relevant to prevent illicit activities and strengthen control over the transport of forestry products.
