Armed hooded individuals burn at least four trucks in Purén: left a banner
A group of armed hooded individuals burned at least four trucks early this morning in the commune of Purén, in the La Araucanía region. A banner referencing the Mapuche cause was found at the scene.
This new act of violence occurred in the Agua Tendida sector, at a site used as a truck storage yard.
A group of individuals arrived at the location in two pickup trucks, using them to ram the entrance gate of the storage yard to gain access to the premises.
Once inside, they intimidated the security guard and burned at least two trucks and one vehicle, according to information gathered by Radio Bío Bío.
Not satisfied with that, they repeated the action with two other trucks parked on the public road.
A banner referencing the Mapuche cause was found at the attack site.
Series of violent incidents in La Araucanía
This case adds to the recent violent incidents recorded on Tuesday in the La Araucanía region, where vehicles were burned and municipal workers from Victoria were shot at—one of whom suffered an open wound—to steal the pickup truck they were traveling in.
After that action, the individuals fired shots at the vehicle of farmer René Urban. They did the same to the house of the newly elected member of the Constitutional Council, Héctor Urban, the former's son. No injuries were reported in either case.
Later, two police officers were injured after allegedly being hit by pellets.
All these events occur amid a new extension—the 23rd—of the State of Emergency in La Araucanía and two provinces of the Bío Bío region. The measure, which will soon mark one year in effect, continues to draw criticism for its lack of effectiveness in containing attacks.
