The wildfires in the Ñuble Region have reached an alarming magnitude, with over 1,000 hectares consumed by the flames and the evacuation of residents in three communes. The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) and the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) are on maximum alert, deploying significant resources to combat the six active fires, three of which are under red alert.
The most extensive fire, known as "Perales Biobío," has ravaged 945 hectares in the commune of Ránquil since Tuesday night. The situation has worsened, and Senapred has ordered the evacuation of the sectors of El Galpón, El Barco, El Galponcillo, Cancha Los Botones, El Peral, and Las Águilas. The mayor of Ránquil, Nicolás Torres, has described the fire as "absolutely out of control" and confirmed that houses have been affected by the flames.
Conaf has mobilized a considerable team to confront the disaster in Ránquil, including 10 technicians, 7 brigades, 6 air tankers, 3 helicopters, and 2 heavy air tankers. Despite the efforts, Mayor Torres indicates that the situation is critical and that local resources are overwhelmed.
In the commune of San Nicolás, the "El Manzano" fire has consumed approximately 160 hectares. Conaf has deployed five technicians, seven brigades, two planes, and one helicopter to control the flames. Senapred has requested evacuations in the sectors of El Sauce, El Oasis, and Monteleón Norte.
The commune of Pinto is also affected, with a fire that has destroyed 36.2 hectares so far. In response to the severity of the fires, Senapred has raised the alert level to Yellow for the entire Ñuble Region.
Authorities continue to work tirelessly to control the fires and protect the affected communities. Collaboration between Conaf, Senapred, firefighters, and municipal teams is crucial during these critical moments. The public is urged to follow evacuation instructions and stay informed through official channels.
