With the central objective of caring for the native forest and projecting more responsible forestry development, a workshop was held in Coyhaique on January 21, marking the official start of the implementation phase of the Clean Production Agreement (APL) called "Coyhaique Native Forest under a Forest Sustainability Management Model". This instance represents a collaborative effort that unites the public and private sectors around the protection of ecosystems and the promotion of local work in the area.

The work session brought together twelve forestry companies in the territory that are currently executing management plans on an area close to 3,750 hectares of native forest. Along with them, professionals from the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) and the technical teams from the consulting firms Sigmar and Replanta participated, who are responsible for providing the necessary technical support during the process. This work is part of a line of action promoted by CONAF since 2022, in agreement with CORFO's Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change, aimed at increasing the area of sustainably managed forest and reducing its degradation.

Clean Production Agreements function as a voluntary tool that allows companies to advance towards higher sustainability standards through certification and technical support. In this context, José Luis Pérez Vargas, provincial head of the Province of Coyhaique, indicated that "this Clean Production Agreement seeks to consolidate a forest management model that allows improving the productivity of the native forest, protecting ecosystems, generating local employment, and strengthening the technical capacities of the sector, moving towards modern management consistent with the challenges of climate change."

During the initial meeting, the Implementation Plan for the first year was presented, detailing goals and deadlines, in addition to practical work being carried out to ensure that each company's plans are aligned with environmental, productive, and management sustainability indicators. Continuing with the schedule, it was announced that on January 29, the APL Coordinating Committee Workshop will be held, a key instance that will include the participation of the Regional Ministerial Secretaries (Seremi) of Agriculture, Environment, and Energy, along with INDAP, the Regional Government, CONAF, and Sercotec, with the purpose of articulating joint actions for the proper development of the agreement.

The launch of this stage constitutes a relevant milestone for the Aysén Region, positioning Coyhaique as a pilot territory in the application of sustainable forest management models. This experience seeks to promote a balance between production and environmental care, with a view to its projection and eventual replicability in other communes of the region.
