In the La Araucanía region, police and military patrols have been reinforced in Malleco Province, where four violent actions, including attacks and shootings, have been recorded in one week.

In that regard, the latest incidents included an attack on a wind farm and a health vehicle.

For the Government, this is not an increase in violence, but they did acknowledge that there is concern about what is happening in Malleco Province.

In 7 days, a CMPC property was attacked and machinery was burned, forestry guards were ambushed, barricades were set up and a pickup truck belonging to personnel supporting health work in rural areas was stolen, and part of the infrastructure at a wind farm tower was burned.

The Regional Minister of Public Security, Luis Calderón, said that in this latest attack there are different data points that would not link it to the Mapuche conflict.

"It is an area that has no perimeter fencing, nor a protection area around the park. The graffiti shows an ideological connotation, which somewhat changes the scheme regarding the investigation or the criminal analysis, in the sense that October 18 is claimed, so there is an indication that this is a specifically new, highly ideologized event,

The Government authority did not say so, but one of the lines of investigation is linked to the actions of a lone attacker, possibly of an anarchist type.

The president of the Multigremial de La Araucanía, Patricio Santibáñez, said that the State and its institutions must prevent the attacks and for that to happen, they must dismantle the armed groups.

"This resurgence of attacks shows that terrorism still exists in our region. It is not possible that a few people hold us hostage to violence, prevent the region from progressing and seek to impose their extremist ideology on us through violence, as they have done for so long," Santibáñez asserted.

After the latest attacks, police and military personnel will increase their surveillance and patrols in Malleco Province.

In turn, the violent incidents coincided with a new renewal of the State of Emergency.
