The Ñuble Region has begun a cycle of training sessions to improve wildfire prevention in its 21 communes. The initiative is aimed at municipal officials and professionals linked to agricultural and rural work, who play a key role in identifying risks and disseminating preventive recommendations among communities.

The first session was held at the Yungay Fire Department and brought together representatives from that commune and from Pemuco, along with teams from Prodesal and INDAP. Among the topics addressed were the responsible use of fire, preventive silviculture and the management of combustible vegetation in areas near homes and infrastructure.

The Regional Minister of Agriculture of Ñuble, Juan Luis Enríquez Fuentes, highlighted the coordination among institutions to anticipate possible emergencies and reinforce prevention actions. In that context, he stressed that preventing the occurrence of fires is the main objective of the joint work.

For his part, the regional director of Conaf, Domingo González Zúñiga, warned about the complexity that the next season could present and emphasized the importance of preparing professionals who know the characteristics of the territory. This experience, he explained, will make it possible to strengthen preventive and deterrent actions during periods of high risk.

One of the program's pillars is to expand the reach of the knowledge acquired through the Prodesal and INDAP teams, which maintain permanent contact with farmers and residents of rural areas. In this way, the recommendations can reach directly those who carry out productive activities in areas exposed to fires.

The acting director of INDAP Ñuble, Claudia Parra Bello, valued the coordinated work with Conaf, the Regional Minister of Agriculture and other agricultural services. She also highlighted that these instances seek to provide practical tools to reduce risks and protect homes, animals and rural economic activities.

The mayor of Yungay, Rafael Cifuentes Rodríguez, also valued that the commune hosted the first session and emphasized the need to anticipate emergencies through preventive actions.

The cycle will continue in the different INDAP work areas, with the purpose of strengthening the capacities of territorial teams and promoting responsible behavior regarding the use of fire. The goal is for prevention measures to reach rural communities in a timely manner before the months of greatest wildfire danger.
