The National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) trained 54 military personnel from the Army Aviation Brigade (BAVE), located in the commune of Rancagua, so that they can collaborate from a second line in fighting forest fires in the O'Higgins Region.

The theoretical-practical instruction, carried out between September 24 and 25, covered subjects such as fire behavior, use of tools, construction of firebreaks, organization and safety procedures in the event of emergencies. In addition, it considered inter-institutional protocols and an introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS).

In this regard, the O'Higgins regional director, Carla Castro, highlighted that "the military personnel were evaluated in critical maneuvers such as the consolidation of control lines, the identification and extinguishing of hot spots and the removal of fuels, thus demonstrating their ability to apply safety protocols and report developments in a simulated emergency environment."

The trained uniformed personnel will constitute the Army Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigades (BRIFE) and will be able to work on the construction of firebreaks, the extinguishing of secondary hotspots and flare-ups.
