The recent increase in fuel prices has caused concern in various productive sectors. The Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag) described the situation on VerticeTV as "a hard blow," although they indicated they will have to face the scenario responsibly.
The union attributed part of the problem to decisions made during the previous administration, pointing to an "irresponsibility" in resource management. "The government ran out of resources and, understanding that context, we are going to have to grin and bear it and face this in the best way possible," stated René Muñoz, manager of Acoforag.
He also advanced that they will conduct a detailed analysis of the repercussions this increase will have, especially on smaller actors in the productive chain, such as contractors, transporters, and forestry producers. According to his explanation, the effects will begin to become more evident during April.
"This last week of March is still manageable, but April will be the first full month in which the new fuel prices will be reflected in our activity, and that is what worries us today," stated Muñoz.
In parallel, the contractors confirmed they have already held conversations with authorities of the current government, with the aim of exploring measures and initiatives to mitigate the impact of the price hike on the sector.
