Amid a growing emphasis on strengthening environmental education in the country, a rural school in the commune of Puyehue has positioned itself among the most outstanding initiatives in the Los Lagos Region, after securing funding from the Environmental Protection Fund.
This is an educational project aimed at fostering ecological awareness within the school community through practical actions that combine learning and environmental care. The proposal was one of three selected at the regional level, allowing access to resources close to $6 million for its implementation.
The initiative included various interventions within the school, such as the construction of a greenhouse, the implementation of recycling and waste valorization systems, and the improvement of common areas. Additionally, activities like planting native species and installing infrastructure to facilitate safe movement within the premises were carried out.
The project's development involved the active participation of students, teachers, education assistants, and parents, along with technical support from the municipality, enabling collaborative work with a direct impact on the educational community.
The driving team emphasized that such experiences not only improve the school environment but also strengthen the education of more conscious and environmentally committed students.
The project concluded with an activity that reflected the progress achieved, showcasing changes in both infrastructure and the environmental culture of the community, thus solidifying an experience intended to have a lasting impact.
