The first of a series of lawsuits against the State was filed by the Foundation for Victims of Terrorism in the Macrozona Sur. It denounces the State's lack of service in protecting the inhabitants of the provinces of Arauco and La Araucanía.

The legal action was entered in the Third Civil Court of Concepción on behalf of a victim, a resident of the province of Arauco, denouncing the State's lack of service, which allegedly allowed the attacks suffered over the past 30 years.

The president of the Chilean Foundation for Victims of Terrorism in the Macrozona Sur, Fernando Fuentealba, explained that this is the first of several lawsuits they are preparing, which will include those of families classified by the INDH as victims of human rights violations.

Meanwhile, lawyer Boris Reyes pointed out that among the arguments presented and used to prove the State's responsibility is the failure to use the means available to governments to provide security to citizens.

Regarding the State of Exception, it was explained that this tool required greater protection that was not provided, and therefore it cannot be considered an effective security measure. Another lawyer, Rodrigo Sotomayor, announced that there will be a total of more than 100 compensation claims to be filed.

In this first lawsuit, the compensation demanded amounts to 2.8 billion pesos.
