The Government defended this Wednesday the effectiveness of the state of emergency in the Southern Macrozone and struck back at those who have questioned the measure. This, after the police operation carried out during the early morning in the community of Temucuicui.
The procedure, led by Carabineros, left five people detained: three with outstanding warrants for arson attacks on Route 5 South and two for violating Law 20,000 on drugs. In this context, the Minister of the Interior, Claudio Alvarado, defended the role of the constitutional tool and directly targeted its detractors. "These actions, which are prepared over time and with intelligence work, are beginning to bear fruit," he stated.
Likewise, he added that "the criticisms that are often made of the state of emergency decrees, I believe that actions like this clearly demonstrate their effectiveness." Along those lines, he reinforced that "we consider that in their current terms, they allow us to meet the objectives, and the actions we learned about this morning prove it."
For his part, the Minister of Defense, Fernando Barros, stated that "all those parliamentarians, those inhabitants of the area who are very nervous, or some who have questioned the renewal of the constitutional state of emergency, here there is a concrete effect." "In accordance with the legal system, with the tools that the constitution and laws give us, a flawless act has been carried out. We said some time ago that we sought to ensure that judicial rulings were complied with, that there would be no territory whose access was restricted for the State, and other concrete actions that we will continue to develop," he concluded.
His statements come just two weeks after Congress approved a new extension of the state of emergency, amid questions from various political sectors.
