The Association of Forestry Contractors reacted with annoyance to the visit made to the Bío Bío region by the Minister of Security, Martín Arrau, after the Secretary of State met with some victims of violence without them being considered.
According to the group's manager, René Muñoz, these issues need to be addressed from the central level, in order to improve a situation he described as abandonment since 1997, when the arson attacks began.
"We need the State not to leave us abandoned, as it has been until now. We have been dealing with this issue of violence for 27 years, and we believe we deserve a place at the table where this is discussed," he argued.
For his part, the presidential delegate, Julio Anativia, confirmed that neither he nor the regional secretary of Security have met with the forestry contractors.
Likewise, he stated that a time will have to be found to discuss these issues, either with Minister Arrau or with local authorities.
"And if there was any particular person or guild that, due to time constraints, was not able to meet, this will be discussed with them, and we will plan the best way to have some meeting with the minister or through the regional secretary of Security," he indicated.
The forestry contractors insisted that the problem must be addressed from the central level and hope to meet with the Minister of Security and not with the regional secretary of the portfolio, Richard Soto, to discuss these issues.
