With the aim of reducing roadkill of wild animals and raising greater awareness, especially regarding responsible coexistence between people and nature, a new activity was carried out as part of the "Slow for Wildlife" campaign at the Cardenal Samoré Border Complex in the commune of Osorno.
The National Forest Corporation (Conaf), through the park rangers of Puyehue National Park, together with the Con Garra Foundation, Carabineros de Chile, the Agricultural and Livestock Service, and the Customs Service, reinforced this initiative at the busy international crossing, which is used daily by cars, trucks, and buses traveling from Osorno to Bariloche, as well as from Argentina to southern Chile.
The regional director of Conaf Los Lagos, Fernando Gebhard, called for respecting and reducing speed in areas where native wildlife is present, especially near national parks.
"Unfortunately, recently, several pudú specimens have been run over in different areas of the Los Lagos Region. That is why we have reactivated this 'Slow for Wildlife' driving campaign, because we need everyone's commitment," he stated.
The "Slow for Wildlife" campaign, promoted by the Con Garra Foundation since 2023, aims to raise greater awareness among road infrastructure users and reduce the number of accidents involving native wildlife that affect its conservation.
