The Multigremial de La Araucanía called on the Government not to reduce the military deployment in the Southern Macrozone and, in a new installment of the report on acts of violence, reiterated the need to improve intelligence work to prevent attacks.

In the statistical report for the month of May, the business organization counted 6 violent actions, including arson attacks and armed assaults, in the communes of Contulmo, Collipulli, Ercilla, Victoria, Curacautín, and Lautaro.

Regarding the modifications to the State of Emergency, the president of the Multigremial, Patricio Santibáñez, indicated that it is necessary to optimize the work of operational commanders without that meaning reducing the police and, especially, military contingent.

The president of the Sociedad de Fomento Agrícola de Temuco (SOFO), Eduardo Renner, warned that whenever there are arrests, new leaders may emerge in violent groups.

He also pointed out that intelligence work must be improved to act before attacks occur.

The Multigremial de La Araucanía stated that now is the time to consolidate progress in security matters and specified that from January to May, a 48% decrease in acts of violence linked to the Mapuche conflict was recorded.

The business leaders indicated that they will closely observe what happens from June 20, the date from which a unified military command will begin operating for the 4 provinces under a state of emergency.

From that day on, the Armed Forces contingent will also be authorized to register vehicles, carry out identity checks, and detain people.
