The eviction of a Forestal Arauco property in the San José de Colico sector, Curanilahue commune, in the Bío Bío region, was carried out. The provincial presidential delegate of Arauco, Pedro Marileo, explained that the operation was conducted by Carabineros and Public Order Control personnel, in compliance with a pending order issued by the Court of Appeals of Concepción.
Marileo stated that various evictions of illegal occupations have been coordinated in the province and that, in parallel, work has been done with the Municipality to engage in dialogue with the affected families. He added that Bosques Arauco made a plot of land available for homeless individuals, noting that many occupations corresponded to second homes or commercial uses. He emphasized that the procedure falls within the execution of current judicial orders.
Upon entering the property during the day, authorities confirmed that the people had already voluntarily left, with only the structures remaining, which will be demolished. Lieutenant Colonel Alejandro Alban Gutiérrez, acting prefect of the Arauco Prefecture, indicated that there were no arrests and that the result was due to prior notification work carried out by Carabineros, the municipality, and the provincial delegation.
The Regional Ministerial Secretary of Security of Bío Bío, Richard Soto, described the operation as expeditious and detailed that it involves the restitution of the San José de Colico estate, covering 1,500 hectares, of which 400 have already been handed over. He highlighted that no incidents or confrontations occurred, thanks to prior coordination with the provincial delegation and the Municipality of Curanilahue.
Soto emphasized that the situation has been ongoing for years and that there is an ongoing judicial process. He specified that what was carried out was the formal return of the land to the forestry company that owns and manages it.
