ULagos and INFOR seal strategic alliance to strengthen sustainable research in Chiloé

The University of Los Lagos continues to strengthen its commitment to excellent training that is relevant to the needs of the territory. Within this framework, the institution signed a collaboration agreement with the Forest Institute (INFOR), a strategic alliance that will enhance the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students, in addition to promoting the development of research and outreach activities in the Chiloé Archipelago.

The collaboration includes seminars, technology transfer workshops, support for research processes and theses, as well as access to the technical capabilities of the Forest Institute, including the Structural Wood Laboratory (LME), a facility that represents a significant opportunity for students in careers related to construction, engineering, and other disciplines linked to territorial development.

Training with territorial relevance

The director of the Chiloé Campus of the University of Los Lagos, Maximiliano Heeren Herrera, highlighted that this agreement reinforces collaborative work between both institutions and opens new possibilities for the university community.

"For us, it is a tremendous opportunity that this agreement between the University of Los Lagos and the Forest Institute has been established, because it will offer our undergraduate and postgraduate students training opportunities through the Institute, via joint funds and efforts that allow us to advance research with greater relevance for the Chiloé Archipelago, especially on such important topics as wood, sustainability, and others. Without a doubt, it represents a major commitment for our University, but also for our community in Chiloé."

Likewise, he explained that this alliance will allow for the continued consolidation of training connected to the challenges of the territory, fostering the generation of applied knowledge and collaboration between the academic world and public institutions.

Knowledge at the service of students

For his part, the executive director of INFOR, Gabriel Valenzuela, valued the agreement as an opportunity to bring the research carried out by the institute closer to the university community.

"We are very satisfied with this agreement we have signed with the University of Los Lagos, which will allow us to transfer our knowledge and our work to many students. At this campus, more than 1,500 students, in addition to master's students, will be able to benefit from all the research carried out by INFOR. We have great activities that we will carry out together, such as seminars and knowledge transfer. We also have a Structural Wood Laboratory that will be very important for students in the construction field. We continue working together and great challenges lie ahead with the University."
