CONAF Ñuble addresses challenges for the reactivation of the forestry sector alongside municipalities of the Laja-Diguillín Canal

The main challenges facing the National Forestry Corporation regarding the reactivation of the forestry sector were presented by the director of Conaf Ñuble, Domingo González Zúñiga, during the third Assembly of the Association of Municipalities of the Laja-Diguillín Canal Irrigation Territory, held in the commune of Pemuco.

The event, organized by the Association of Municipalities, brought together the mayors of the territory and representatives from various public services, led by the Presidential Regional Delegate of Ñuble, Diego Sepúlveda Palma, with the aim of learning about the main lines of work promoted by public institutions for the benefit of the communes.

During his presentation, the regional director informed the mayors of the territory about the progress of the transition process towards the future National Forestry Service (SERNAFOR), highlighting the strengthening of the forestry functions that the new institution will assume.

Likewise, he referred to the transfer of the administration of protected wilderness areas to the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Service (SBAP), a process that marks a milestone in the modernization of the country's environmental management.

The presentation also considered the actions that CONAF is developing to contribute to the reactivation of the forestry sector in the region, promoting work with landowners, municipalities, and territorial stakeholders, along with reinforcing forest fire prevention strategies through inter-institutional coordination, preventive work with communities, and the promotion of responsible use of fire.

'We are experiencing a moment of institutional transformation that entails significant challenges for CONAF and the forestry sector. It is essential that municipalities are aware of these processes, because coordinated work with the territories will be key to strengthening forest management, fire prevention, and the conservation of our natural heritage,' stated Domingo González Zúñiga.

The participation of CONAF Ñuble in this assembly reaffirms the Corporation's commitment to ongoing coordination with municipalities and various public services, promoting an articulated management that allows addressing the challenges of the territory and advancing towards a more robust forestry and environmental institutionality for the country.
