Exports of posts and poles achieve their best performance in over a decade

Chilean exports of posts and poles reached a positive performance during 2025, totaling 42,007.5 tons valued at US$22.7 million. These figures represent an increase of 3.9% in exported volume and 18.2% in revenue compared to the previous year, consolidating the recovery that this segment of the forestry industry has been showing.

According to information prepared by the Forestry Institute (INFOR), an agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, the last three years constitute the period of highest exports of posts and poles since 2012, the year in which the historical maximum of 57.9 thousand tons exported was recorded.

Historical analysis shows that the sector experienced a significant decline between 2013 and 2017, reaching its lowest level in the last fifteen years in that final year, with only 18.3 thousand tons exported. Since then, the market has shown a sustained recovery, reaching in 2025 a volume that represents an increase of 129.5% compared to that recorded nine years earlier.

INFOR data reveals that the recovery is reflected not only in exported quantities but also in the value of the products. During 2025, the average export price for posts reached US$585 per ton, while that for poles reached US$466 per ton, significantly contributing to the increase in total export value.

Likewise, statistics indicate that posts continue to be the main exported product within this category, concentrating the largest share of the total volume of shipments abroad. Poles, meanwhile, have maintained a relevant share and have shown a favorable evolution in their prices over recent years.

The performance observed in 2025 confirms a positive trend for this niche of the Chilean forestry sector, which has managed to recover much of the ground lost after the decline recorded in the middle of the last decade. The figures compiled by INFOR show that exports of posts and poles are going through one of their best moments in over ten years, driven both by greater international demand and better export prices.
