An operation by the Investigative Police led to the arrest of a man accused of unlawful occupation and wood theft on a property located in the Lomas del Sol sector, Valdivia commune. The procedure was carried out by specialized detectives from BIDEMA Valdivia, in coordination with the Local Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation established that part of the wood came from the Llancahue Nature Sanctuary, an area of high environmental value located in the Los Ríos Region. During the operation, officers caught the suspect loading native wood onto a truck.

At the scene, the unauthorized felling of two ulmo trees, approximately 15 meters in length each, was also confirmed. Additionally, police recovered about four meters of coihue wood and seized a truck used for its transport, along with a chainsaw used in the logging activities.

According to police reports, the appraised value of the recovered species, damages, and assets associated with the investigation amounts to $28.3 million.

The detainee, an adult Chilean citizen, was placed at the disposal of the Valdivia Guarantee Court, by instruction of the Public Prosecutor's Office, for the corresponding detention hearing and formal charging for the crimes under investigation.

The procedure aims to clarify responsibilities related to the illegal extraction of native species and to strengthen the protection of natural areas that hold high ecological value in the Los Ríos Region.
