With the participation of representatives from the public and private sectors, organizations linked to the forestry field, and the academic world, the first Regional Forestry Roundtable of La Araucanía was established, a body that seeks to articulate capacities, knowledge, and commitments to boost the recovery and sustainable development of one of the region's key productive sectors.

The roundtable is led by the Seremi of Agriculture and the Regional Directorate of Conaf, and includes the participation of the various stakeholders linked to forestry activity, with the purpose of generating a shared vision regarding the challenges and opportunities currently facing the sector.

The objective of this first stage is to move forward in building an Action Plan and a prioritized portfolio of rapid-action initiatives, agreed upon and executable, that allow the proposals raised to be transformed into concrete actions.

The regional director of Conaf, Héctor Tillería, highlighted the importance of having a permanent space for coordination among the different stakeholders, "With the objective of articulating the forestry sector of the Region of La Araucanía, this forestry roundtable was established, uniting the private sector with the public sector, NGOs, and the academic world, and which mainly seeks to boost the region's forestry sector."

For her part, the Seremi of Agriculture, María Teresa Fernández, valued the establishment of this body as a space to integrate the capacities of the different stakeholders linked to the sector, "Today the forestry roundtable was reactivated, so we are starting a working body that seeks to unite capacities, knowledge, and commitments to project the forestry development of La Araucanía."

The Regional Forestry Roundtable will address in a coordinated manner the different components of La Araucanía's forestry heritage, considering native forest, existing forest plantations, and new coverages and plantations, incorporating criteria of sustainability, productivity, environmental protection, fire prevention and mitigation, and adaptation to climate change.

The region maintains a significant forestry vocation, supported by the area of native forest, plantations, primary industry, and a production chain that includes activities such as sawmilling, production of wood chips, panels, posts, poles, and dendroenergy.

In this context, the roundtable seeks to move from a vision focused exclusively on the availability of raw material toward a strategy that allows generating greater added value, employment, and territorial opportunities, strengthening the productive linkages associated with the sector.

As part of its operation, the formation of working groups is planned to address the different matters and translate proposals into verifiable initiatives.

In this way, the establishment of the first Regional Forestry Roundtable marks the beginning of a joint work process between the public, private, academic sectors, and organizations linked to forestry activity, with the purpose of generating proposals and actions that contribute to the recovery, sustainability, and strengthening of La Araucanía's forestry sector.
