With the aim of strengthening the internationalization of the region's export offering, ProChile Biobío held the Second Forestry Suppliers Meeting, an event that brought together more than 30 companies from the sector in Concepción to analyze commercial opportunities and learn about the demand of strategic markets in Latin America.

The activity featured presentations by Ramón Ortiz, commercial assistant of ProChile in Paraguay, and Álvaro Camargo, commercial assistant of the ProChile office in São Paulo, Brazil, who presented the outlook for both markets and the possibilities they offer for Chilean forestry suppliers. The event was organized by ProChile Biobío, with the support of the Chilean Wood Corporation (CORMA), the Association of Forestry Contractors (ACOFORAG) and the Association of Companies of Biobío (ASEM Biobío).

Paula Hormazábal, regional director (S) of ProChile in Biobío, highlighted that "the meeting made it possible to bring strategic commercial information closer to the forestry supplier companies of Biobío and to reinforce ProChile's work to connect the regional offering with international demand."

During the activity, ProChile also presented its strategy to attract international buyers to the region during November, which includes two important commercial matchmaking instances: the business roundtable of the REDES Meeting, on Wednesday, November 11, and the one to be held within the framework of EXPOCORMA, on Thursday, November 19 of the same month.

Brazil and Paraguay: markets with growth potential

In the analysis during the event, Brazil stood out for the magnitude and dynamism of its forestry industry, which constitutes the country's fifth most important industrial sector and represents 1.2% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Over the last decade, its production chain recorded an average annual growth of 3.2%, reflecting the sustained development of this activity.

Brazilian forestry exports reach US$ 12.7 billion, equivalent to 3.9% of its total shipments. The country is also one of the world's leading suppliers of pulp, with shipments of US$ 7.9 billion, whose main destination is China. Its production chain comprises 125 plants and distribution centers, which shows the dimension of this industry and its potential for Chilean suppliers.

Paraguay, for its part, presents important expansion prospects. It currently has 340,000 hectares of plantations and a potential area of 1.2 million hectares for new forestations. The industry brings together 550 companies and has an installed capacity of 865,000 cubic meters per year.

Likewise, its forestry exports reached US$ 101 million in 2025, mainly in sawn wood, panels and plywood, figures that reflect the development of an industry that offers possibilities for commercial matchmaking for suppliers of specialized goods and services from the Biobío Region.
