In a police case that had been kept under wraps, a possible attack is being investigated following the destruction of a telecommunications antenna in Curacautín, La Araucanía region.

Everything occurred on the night of Sunday, April 26, inside the Tolhuaca National Park, in a rural sector of the commune, and affected infrastructure of the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf). The situation was addressed during the police committee meeting.

The park rangers who filed the complaint with Carabineros stated that, moments before the tower—15 meters tall—collapsed, shouts were heard at the scene. Additionally, the destruction of padlocks on a gate was confirmed.

This is an area where arson attacks have previously been recorded. Likewise, a protection measure was in effect in the area, the intensity of which had recently been reduced.

The Government already has background information on the case, and the ongoing expert analyses will be key to confirming or ruling out the hypothesis of an attack.

As a preventive measure, patrols and coordination between police personnel and the military contingent deployed under the state of emergency will be reinforced.
