With broad participation from authorities, representatives of the forestry sector, and public and private stakeholders linked to regional productive development, the closing ceremony of the Mercado Madera project was held in Valdivia. This digital platform aims to strengthen the commercialization of forest products from sustainably managed forests and position itself as a strategic tool for the sector's development in the Los Ríos Region.
The initiative, led by the Forest Institute (Infor) in collaboration with the National Forest Corporation (Conaf) and supported by CORFO through its Public Goods line, seeks to improve connections between producers, buyers, and actors in the forestry chain, promoting greater transparency, access to information, and new commercial opportunities for the territory.
During the event, the Regional Minister of Agriculture of Los Ríos, Rodrigo Bahamonde, valued the inter-institutional work that made this platform possible and highlighted the growth opportunities it opens for the sector. "We have identified small gaps where we can develop a new project or a Mercado Madera 2.0, which would be very positive to continue strengthening this initiative. From the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, we will continue promoting this collaborative work between the public and private sectors and all actors linked to regional forestry development," he stated.
The ceremony also highlighted the potential of Mercado Madera as a tool for modernization and digital transformation for the regional forestry industry. In this context, the Deputy Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of CORFO Los Ríos, Carla Paredes, stated that this platform represents a concrete opportunity to strengthen traceability and generate higher levels of trust in the forestry market. "We want to demonstrate that it is possible to work in a more sustainable way and, at the same time, contribute to breaking down certain stigmas associated with the forestry sector," she noted.
From Infor, the institution that technically led the project, they emphasized the value of moving towards technological solutions that reduce information gaps and strengthen sector coordination. The manager of Infor Los Ríos headquarters, Gerardo Vergara, indicated that "as Infor, we are very pleased to have promoted this project together with different institutions, contributing to the sustainable development of the regional forestry sector."
One of the main milestones highlighted during the event was the consolidation of Mercado Madera as a digital public good aimed at facilitating more efficient, transparent, and accessible commercialization, both for small and medium-sized producers and for companies and buyers in the sector.
In this line, the Regional Director (acting) of Conaf Los Ríos, Marco Flores, underscored the importance of having tools that strengthen the formal and sustainable commercialization of products from native forests and forest plantations. "We believe in the importance of these platforms being maintained over time, for the good of the productive and sustainable development of the Los Ríos region," he emphasized.
To close the event, the participating institutions signed a Continuity Agreement that reaffirms the inter-institutional commitment to continue strengthening and projecting Mercado Madera in the medium and long term, consolidating it as a strategic tool to improve the competitiveness, sustainability, and coordination of the regional forestry sector.
Currently, the platform is operational and available for users and sector actors at the website mercadomadera.infor.cl, from where it will continue to drive actions for dissemination, transfer, and strengthening of the region's forestry ecosystem.
