Truck cameras were key to sealing the downfall of Fierro Huenumán: he was placed in pretrial detention

The Guarantee Court of Carahue ordered pretrial detention for Rosamel Antonio Fierro Huenumán, arrested by the Investigative Police (PDI) on Tuesday, in an investigation stemming from a robbery with intimidation that occurred in 2021 in the rural sector of the commune in the La Araucanía region.

The Prosecutor's Office charged the 35-year-old individual with two counts of simple damages, one robbery with intimidation, and marijuana cultivation. He had been sought since December 2021 for his participation in March of that year in a robbery against forestry workers.

The victims were traveling in two trucks at the Aguas Blancas 2 estate in the commune of Carahue, approximately 18 kilometers north of the urban area of the Tranapuente locality in the coastal commune, when they were intercepted by a group of individuals, among whom was the now-defendant.

Prosecutor César Schibar, head of the Criminal Analysis System of the Prosecutor's Office (Sacfi) of La Araucanía, specified that Fierro Huenumán's participation was proven before the Guarantee judge using images from the security cameras of the assaulted vehicles.

"It is relevant to mention at this point that a fundamental element for determining the crime and the participation was the images captured by the cameras carried by both vehicles," he stated.

"In them, the dynamics of the attack by the defendant can be observed, and it served as an important element to determine his participation in these events," he added.

The Guarantee judge, Iván Santander Valenzuela, applied the precautionary measure of pretrial detention for Rosamel Fierro Huenumán, considering that his freedom constitutes a danger to the safety of society, the victims, and an imminent risk of flight.

Along with this, he established a three-month period for the closure of the investigation, in a case in which there are two other individuals involved and already convicted.

The development of the hearing was under permanent reinforced custody by personnel from the Special Prison Services Unit (USEP) of Gendarmerie, who transferred the defendant with an armored vehicle escort to the Angol Penitentiary Compliance Center.
