Detectives from the Timber Theft Investigation Team, part of the Criminal Investigation Brigade (BICRIM) of the PDI Valdivia, arrested three individuals in the rural area of Camán, Valdivia municipality, for the crime of timber theft.

Operation and Chase

According to Subprefect Cristian Muñoz of BICRIM Valdivia, the arrests followed a joint investigation with the Public Ministry, which led to the identification of a forest property in the Camán area where a group was illegally extracting timber.

"A group of individuals was found in two vehicles stealing timber. Upon noticing the presence of the PDI, they fled for several kilometers along a complex rural road. Due to excessive speed, one of the trucks overturned, and its occupant attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended shortly after. Simultaneously, a second team from the unit located a second truck on an adjacent property and arrested its two occupants," explained Subprefect Muñoz.

Seizure of Items

During the operation, the PDI seized two trucks, two chainsaws, and approximately six cubic meters of native timber, along with other tree species.

Arrests and Formal Charges

The three detainees, all adult Chilean males, were placed at the disposal of the judiciary. One of them had prior records for the same crime of timber theft. The case will be presented to the Valdivia Guarantee Court for the detention control hearing and formal charging.
