Five men were caught in the act and detained by detectives from the Cañete Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim), as part of an investigation into the alleged theft and illegal transport of wood belonging to a forestry company.

The operation was carried out based on an Investigation Order coordinated with the Cañete Local Prosecutor's Office. The proceedings allowed officers to identify a truck circulating through the commune transporting approximately 10 cubic meters of wood.

According to the background information gathered during the investigation, the cargo would have been illegally obtained from the affected company's lands. Its origin was established through traceability information provided by the forestry company.

The wood was valued at approximately $500,000, and as a result of the operation, detectives detained five people linked to the transport of the cargo and seized the truck used to transport it.

During the procedure, two chainsaws and an accelerant were also seized, items that were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office to continue with the investigative proceedings.

The background information was brought to the attention of the Cañete Local Prosecutor's Office, which will continue with the investigation aimed at determining the circumstances under which the wood was stolen and establishing potential responsibilities of other individuals.

The proceeding is part of the investigations carried out to identify and prosecute acts related to the theft and illegal commercialization of forestry products in the area.
