A completely destroyed home was left by an arson attack recorded during the early hours of this Friday in the commune of Contulmo, in the province of Arauco, Bío Bío region.
The incident occurred around 04:00 hours at kilometer 42 of Route P-60-R, specifically in the sector of the former Lanalhue station, where unknown individuals arrived at the scene and set the property on fire for reasons under investigation.
Firefighters, Carabineros Public Order Control (COP) personnel, and officers deployed in the area under the protection of the State of Exception responded to the emergency.
As hours passed, authorities confirmed that the home was unoccupied at the time of the attack, so no injuries were reported. Likewise, the identity of the owner of the affected property has not yet been determined.
The presidential delegate of the province of Arauco, Pedro Marileo, stated that Carabineros received a call alerting them to a fire in a home located at kilometer 42 of the route.
"We are gathering the necessary information and speaking with neighbors" to establish who owns the property and advance the investigation, the authority indicated.
Additionally, it was reported that a banner with messages alluding to various episodes of rural violence that occurred recently in the southern macrozone was found at the scene, including the police intervention in Temucuicui and the arrests related to the attack on the Grollmus Mill.
"As a Government, we condemn any act of violence that disrupts order and security in our province of Arauco. A banner alluding to rural violence was indeed found," added Marileo.
By instruction of the Flagrancy Prosecutor's Office, experts from the Investigations Police (PDI) were placed in charge of the initial proceedings to clarify what happened and locate those responsible for the arson attack.
