Roberto Garrido, deputy national prosecutor, specified that the arrest of Mapuche community member Jorge Huenchullán had been previously attempted without success.
"This is an arrest procedure that had already been attempted on another occasion," the prosecutor stated this Tuesday morning after the capture of the Temucuicui leader became known. "It had been attempted on other occasions, and it had failed," he emphasized.
In that regard, Garrido highlighted the learning that led them to be able to "adjust the strategy, and also use technological elements that allow us to have greater certainty regarding the presence of a person in a specific location."

In his words, those are elements that are constantly being used, and that "are being reviewed to make effective the decisions of the courts of justice and also the decisions adopted by the Prosecutor's Office regarding criminal prosecution."
On this fruitful occasion, the acting national prosecutor valued the coordination between the Investigative Police (PDI), Carabineros, and Army personnel, which "allowed for a fairly discreet planning."
"With the use of different personnel in different areas, the location of the defendant at his home was made possible, and his arrest was carried out under safe conditions for both him and the Carabineros and PDI personnel who participated in the procedure," he added.
Garrido emphasized that after the arrest; specifically at the time of the withdrawal of police officers, shots were recorded "as is usual in that area."
"There are no injuries to report," the prosecutor confirmed. "The withdrawal of the arrested person and his partner was carried out in an Army helicopter precisely to provide protection that the helicopters available to Carabineros and the PDI do not have," he added.
The prosecutor ruled out that the helicopter used was attacked.
