CONAF trained 76 soldiers from the Los Lagos Region in fighting forest fires

The National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) trained 76 soldiers from the Los Lagos Region to fight forest fires from a second line.

The theoretical-practical instruction, which was carried out at the No. 12 "Sangra" Regiment in Puerto Varas, covered subjects such as fire behavior, tool handling, and safety procedures.

The regional director of CONAF Los Lagos, Fernado Gebhard, valued the training of 76 military personnel and the interinstitutional alliance to face emergencies.

"As a Corporation, we greatly appreciate all the support of the Chilean Army in this new 2026-2027 forest fire season," he stated.

For his part, Chilean Army Second Lieutenant Rosauro Martínez highlighted that "we learned about the use of tools, how to make firebreaks, how to handle emergencies, and provide support in fires to CONAF personnel."

Statistics

During the period of greatest occurrence of forest fires 2025-2026, CONAF recorded 170 incidents in the Los Lagos Region, which affected an area of 109 hectares.

In detail, the province of Osorno recorded 21 forest emergencies, Llanquihue 70, Chiloé 74, and Palena 5.
