Exports from the Biobío Region reached US$451.8 million in June 2026, recording a year-on-year growth of 39.6%, according to Export Bulletin No. 380 from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Within this result, the forestry sector maintained a relevant share, with shipments totaling US$74 million, equivalent to 16.4% of the regional total.
Forestry activity ranked as the third main exporting sector in Biobío, behind Pulp, paper, and cardboard manufacturing, which reached US$138.5 million, and Food, with US$77.5 million. Together, these three activities accounted for 64.2% of the region's exports for the month.
Pulp leads shipments
Among the main products exported by the region, pulp ranked first, with returns of US$137.8 million, equivalent to 30.5% of the regional total and an increase of 11.2% compared to June 2025.
The performance of the pulp, paper, and cardboard industry also showed progress at the sectoral level, reaching US$138.5 million, 6.1% more than in the same month of the previous year.
However, not all forestry products performed equally. Sawn wood recorded exports of US$21.9 million, with a year-on-year decrease of 39.7%, equivalent to US$14.4 million less than in June 2025.
In contrast, fiberboard shipments increased to US$15.2 million, 17.7% more than a year earlier, while plywood reached US$13 million, with year-on-year growth of 13.2%.
Exports of wooden doors were also recorded at US$4 million, a figure representing an increase of 47.9% compared to June 2025.
United States and China among main destinations
The regional export performance was driven by demand from international markets. The United States accounted for 29.1% of Biobío's exports, with US$131.3 million, while China represented 21.1%, with US$95.2 million.
In total, the United States, China, the Netherlands, Panama, and South Korea concentrated returns of US$295 million, equivalent to 65.3% of regional exports in June. This group of destinations recorded combined growth of 72.3% over twelve months.
A strategic sector for the regional economy
June results confirm the weight of forestry activity within Biobío's export structure. Although the Forestry category posted a year-on-year decline of 2.2%, its US$74 million kept it among the three main exporting economic activities in the region.
At an aggregate level, Biobío accumulated US$2,337.2 million in exports during the first half of 2026, with cumulative growth of 1.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The behavior of forestry products thus shows a mixed scenario: while pulp, fiberboard, plywood, and wooden doors recorded advances, sawn wood experienced a significant contraction. This performance keeps the forestry sector as one of the pillars of Biobío's exporting activity.
