Forestry sector exports from Biobío reached US$75.5 million in July 2026, a figure representing a decrease of 7.6% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to Export Bulletin No. 381 of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The result positioned forestry activity as the third largest in terms of participation within regional exports, after the manufacture of pulp, paper and paperboard, and Food. Together, these three activities accounted for 76.8% of the region's total exports during the month.
In general terms, Biobío recorded exports of US$399.4 million in July, an interannual growth of 9.5%. The Industry sector, which includes forestry activities, accounted for a good part of this performance, with shipments of US$387.9 million and an increase of 9.4%.
Sawn wood falls nearly 50%
Among the region's main exported products, sawn wood showed one of the most significant declines. Its shipments reached US$20 million, equivalent to 5% of the regional total, but experienced a drop of 49.8% compared to July 2025, when they reached US$39.8 million.
Other products of the wood industry also recorded decreases. Plywood totaled US$11.1 million, with an interannual decline of 21.3%, while wood profiles and moldings reached US$4.9 million, falling 48% compared to the same month of 2025.
In contrast, shipments of wood fiberboard remained practically stable, at US$12.3 million and a variation of -0.5%.
The report also records the appearance of wood chips among the main exported products, with shipments of US$7.6 million during July, compared to the absence of exports recorded for this product in the same month of 2025.
Pulp maintains leadership
Regional forestry activity develops within an export complex in which the manufacture of pulp, paper and paperboard continues to be the main component. In July, this activity contributed US$131.8 million, equivalent to 33% of regional exports, although it recorded an interannual decrease of 11.7%.
At the product level, pulp was once again the main product exported by Biobío, with US$126 million, representing 31.6% of the regional total. However, its shipments were 12.2% lower than those of July 2025.
Thus, despite the overall growth of regional exports during July, the main products directly linked to the forestry sector showed uneven behavior, with significant declines in sawn wood, plywood and moldings.
Biobío's export performance was also marked by a strong concentration of markets. China and the United States were the main destinations, with shares of 25.4% and 22.9%, respectively.
In the case of China, regional shipments reached US$101.5 million, but decreased 16.9% interannually. The United States, on the other hand, received products worth US$91.4 million, registering an increase of 52.2%.
